Legal requirements for UK salons employing staff
Employers' Liability Insurance (EL) is a legal requirement in the UK for most businesses that employ staff. Under the Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969, any business that employs one or more employees must have a minimum level of Employers' Liability cover. In a salon environment, employees may include full-time staff, part-time staff, apprentices, trainees, work experience placements, and temporary or casual workers. This insurance protects the business if an employee suffers injury or illness as a result of their work and makes a compensation claim. Failure to hold valid Employers' Liability insurance can result in significant fines.
