    Account & Membership

    How do I create an account?

    Click "Join Free (Salon)" on the homepage if you're a salon owner, or "Join (Supplier)" if you're a supplier. Fill out the signup form and submit. If you select Premium during a promotional period, you'll get instant access — no approval wait. Free accounts require admin approval.

    Why is my account pending approval?

    Free accounts are reviewed by our team to ensure quality and legitimacy, typically within 24 hours. Premium accounts (whether paid or during a promotional period) are activated instantly with no approval wait. You'll receive an email when your free account is approved.

    How do I log in after signing up?

    Click "Log In" in the top right corner. Select your account type (Salon, Supplier, or Professional), enter the email and password you created during signup. If you've forgotten your password, click "Forgot password?" to reset it.

    Can I update my account details?

    Yes! Once logged in, go to your dashboard (Salon Dashboard or Supplier Dashboard). You can update your contact information, business details, and other settings there.

    How do I delete my account?

    We take data privacy seriously. Visit our Data Deletion Request page to submit a deletion request. We'll process it within 30 days as required by UK GDPR regulations.

    I forgot my login details - what should I do?

    On the login page, click "Forgot password?" and enter your email address. You'll receive a password reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if you don't see it. The link expires after 1 hour for security.

    For Salons

    Is it free for salons to join?

    Yes! Basic salon membership is completely free. You get access to our verified supplier directory, compliance guides, industry news, insurance quotes, and job listings at no cost. Premium membership (£9.99/month) adds downloadable quiz certificates, editable templates, a Verified Member badge, priority directory ranking, exclusive deals, and social media shout-outs.

    What do I get as a salon member?

    • Supplier Directory: Browse verified suppliers for equipment, products, furniture, engineers, and professional services
    • Compliance Guides: Access comprehensive guides covering regulations, safety, training, and risk assessments
    • Industry News: Latest UK beauty industry news updated regularly from trusted sources

    Can I post job vacancies?

    Yes! Once your account is approved and active, you can post job listings for free. Go to the Jobs page and click "Post a Job" to get started.

    Can I find staff to hire?

    Yes! In the Directory, salons can access both the Suppliers tab (to find products and services) and the Professionals tab (to find potential staff). Professionals who are actively looking for work are highlighted with a green border and badge, making them easy to identify.

    How do I contact suppliers?

    Browse the Directory, click on any supplier listing to view their full profile, then use the "Email" or "Visit Website" buttons to get in touch directly.

    For Suppliers

    How much does it cost to list my business?

    We have two options: Free Listing (£0) gives you a complete directory presence with your logo, business details, and the ability to earn achievements. Premium (£35/month) adds priority placement above free listings, "Premium" badge, highlighted styling, promotional deals with countdowns, and a profile analytics dashboard. Both give you a public profile visible to salon members across the UK.

    How do I pay for my listing?

    Payments are processed securely through Stripe. After your application is approved, you'll be directed to choose your subscription plan and complete payment online. For billing queries, contact payments@salonhub.co.uk.

    What categories can I list under?

    We support the following supplier categories:

    • Equipment & Lamps
    • Creams & Lotions
    • Engineers & Maintenance
    • Training & Courses
    • Insurance & Finance
    • Cleaning Products
    • Marketing Services

    What regions can I target?

    You can specify your coverage area: UK-wide, England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland.

    What's the "Verified" badge?

    The verified badge is awarded by our team to suppliers who have demonstrated reliability, quality service, and positive feedback from salon members. It helps you stand out in the directory.

    Can I edit my listing after it's approved?

    Yes! Log in to your Supplier Dashboard to update your company details, category, region, website, and description at any time.

    How do I cancel my subscription?

    You can cancel your Premium subscription at any time from your Dashboard. Click "Cancel Subscription" or use "Manage Payments" to open your Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect immediately and you will no longer be charged. Your profile remains in the directory on the free tier. You can also contact payments@salonhub.co.uk for assistance.

    What happens if my payment fails?

    If a payment fails, Stripe will automatically retry the charge. Your account will be marked as "past due" while retries are attempted. If payment cannot be collected after multiple retries, your subscription will be cancelled and you will be moved to the free tier. You will receive an email notification about any failed payments so you can update your card details through "Manage Payments" on your Dashboard.

    Directory Ranking

    How is the directory ordered?

    Your position in the directory is determined by:

    1. Top Placement Boost (Gold Crown) - Highest visibility, limited to 3 slots per category
    2. Premium Members - Premium members rank above free listings across all user types
    3. Achievement Score - The more you achieve, the higher you rank!
    4. Join Date - Earlier members rank higher as a final tiebreaker

    How do I improve my ranking?

    The more you engage with The Salon Hub, the higher you'll rank! Ways to boost your achievement score:

    • Complete educational guides and quizzes
    • Earn achievement badges (Brand Builder, Social Butterfly, CPD Professional, etc.)
    • Refer other members to the platform
    • Upload your business logo and portfolio photos
    • Follow other members and stay active

    What badges can I earn?

    Several badges contribute to your achievement score:

    • Brand Builder - Upload your business logo
    • Social Butterfly - Follow 5 suppliers
    • Portfolio Pro - Upload 5 portfolio photos (professionals)
    • CPD Professional - Accumulate 10 hours of reading time on guides
    • Referral badges - Bronze, Silver, Gold, Emerald based on successful referrals

    Is Top Placement limited?

    Yes! Top Placement is available for salons, professionals, and suppliers and is limited to 3 slots per category for exclusivity. Salons & Professionals: £3.99 (7 days) or £9.99 (30 days). Suppliers: £15 (7 days) or £50 (30 days). One-off payment, no recurring charges. When all slots are full in your category, you will need to wait for one to become available. This ensures Top Placement holders get maximum visibility.

    Can free members improve their ranking?

    Absolutely! Salons and Professionals are free to join, and can improve their ranking by completing guides, earning badges, and staying active. The achievement-based ranking rewards engagement, not just payment.

    Insurance

    Do you sell insurance?

    No. The Salon Hub is not an insurance broker and does not sell insurance. We partner with Oak Insurance Brokers, an FCA-regulated specialist in salon and beauty insurance, to help you get quotes.

    Who is Oak Insurance Brokers?

    Oak Insurance Brokers are FCA authorised and regulated specialists in salon and tanning insurance. They understand the specific needs of tanning salons and can provide tailored cover for public liability, treatment liability, employers' liability, and equipment.

    Do you earn commission on insurance sales?

    No. The Salon Hub receives no commission or financial benefit from insurance quotes or sales. This is purely a service to help salon owners find the right cover.

    How do I get an insurance quote?

    Visit our Insurance page, fill out the quote request form, and it will be sent directly to Oak Insurance Brokers. They'll contact you with a tailored quote.

    What types of insurance do tanning salons need?

    Most tanning salons require:

    • Public Liability: Covers injuries to customers on your premises
    • Treatment Liability: Covers claims from UV treatments
    • Employers' Liability: Legally required if you have employees
    • Contents & Equipment: Covers sunbeds, lamps, and equipment

    Can I post job vacancies?

    Yes! Both salons and suppliers with active accounts can post job listings for free.

    What types of jobs can I post?

    You can post any beauty or tanning industry roles including:

    • Salon staff (receptionists, beauty therapists, tanning consultants)
    • Equipment engineers and technicians
    • Sales representatives
    • Training providers
    • Marketing and admin roles

    How long do job listings stay active?

    Job listings remain active for 30 days before they automatically expire. You can repost or manage your job posts from your dashboard.

    Can I search for jobs?

    Yes! Visit the Jobs page to browse all active listings. You can filter by business type, region, job type, and use keyword search.

    For Professionals

    What is a Professional account?

    Professionals are beauty industry workers looking for jobs or career opportunities. This includes hair stylists, nail technicians, beauty therapists, lash techs, makeup artists, spa therapists, tanning consultants, massage therapists, receptionists, and salon managers.

    How do I join as a Professional?

    Click "Join Free (Professional)" on the homepage and fill out the signup form. You'll create a profile showcasing your skills, experience, certifications, and availability. It's completely free!

    What can I do with a Professional account?

    • Apply for Jobs: Browse and apply for positions at salons and beauty businesses across the UK
    • Build Your Profile: Showcase your experience, specialties, and certifications
    • Community Access: Participate in the Connect Q&A forum to ask questions and share knowledge
    • Industry Resources: Access compliance guides, training materials, and industry news
    • Referral Rewards: Earn badges and prizes by referring other professionals or salons

    Is it free for professionals?

    Yes! Basic Professional accounts are completely free. You get full access to browse jobs, apply for positions, and participate in the community. Premium membership (£9.99/month) adds downloadable quiz certificates, editable templates, a Verified Member badge, priority directory ranking, exclusive deals, and social media shout-outs.

    How do I apply for jobs?

    Visit the Jobs page, browse available positions, and click "Apply Now" on any job that interests you. Your application will be sent directly to the employer.

    Can employers see my profile?

    Yes! Salons and suppliers can browse the Professionals tab in the Directory to find talented individuals. Your profile displays your name, specialties, experience, and portfolio. Salons often browse for potential hires, while suppliers connect with industry professionals.

    What is the "Looking for Work" feature?

    On your Professional Dashboard, you'll find a toggle to indicate you're actively seeking opportunities. When turned on, your profile is highlighted with a green border and a prominent "Looking for Work" badge in the Directory. This makes you stand out to salons and suppliers browsing for talent, significantly increasing your visibility.

    How do I update my profile?

    Log in and go to your Professional Dashboard where you can update your bio, skills, certifications, availability status, portfolio photos, and contact details at any time.

    Can I refer other professionals?

    Yes! Share The Salon Hub with other beauty professionals. When they join and create an account, you'll earn referral points towards Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Emerald badges. Get 3+ referrals in a month to enter our monthly prize draw!

    What types of jobs are posted?

    You'll find positions across all beauty sectors including:

    • Hair salons (stylists, colorists, junior stylists)
    • Nail salons (nail technicians, nail artists)
    • Beauty salons (therapists, estheticians, lash/brow techs)
    • Tanning salons (tanning consultants, sunbed specialists)
    • Spas (massage therapists, spa therapists)
    • Mobile roles (mobile therapists, freelance MUAs)

    Do I need qualifications to join?

    No formal qualifications are required to create a Professional account. However, most employers will expect relevant certifications (NVQ, CIBTAC, VTCT, etc.) for specific roles. Make sure to list any qualifications you have on your profile.

    Promotional Offers & Launch Period

    What is the Launch Offer?

    During our launch period, all Premium memberships are completely free for Salons, Professionals, and Suppliers. This means you get full access to every Premium feature without entering any payment details or being charged anything.

    How do I get free Premium access during the promotion?

    It's simple — just follow these steps:

    1. Go to the signup page for your account type (Salon, Supplier, or Professional)
    2. Select the Premium plan (it will show "FREE" with the regular price crossed out)
    3. Fill in your details in the form
    4. Click the green "Get FREE Premium Access" button
    5. You'll be taken straight to your dashboard with full Premium features — no payment needed!

    Do I need to enter payment details for the free promotion?

    No! During the promotional period, no payment details are needed at all. You will not be asked for a credit card or bank details. The process is completely free.

    Will I be charged automatically when the promotion ends?

    No. Promotional access does not automatically convert to a paid subscription. When the promotion ends, your Premium features will simply be deactivated. You can then choose to subscribe at the regular price or continue using the free plan. You will never be charged without explicitly choosing to subscribe yourself.

    How long does the promotion last?

    The end date of the current promotion is displayed on each signup page. Promotional periods may be different for Salons, Professionals, and Suppliers. The Salon Hub reserves the right to extend or end promotional periods at any time.

    Do I get the same features during the promotion as paid Premium?

    Yes! Promotional Premium access includes all the same features as a paid Premium subscription. There are no restrictions — you get the full Premium experience.

    Do I still need admin approval during the promotion?

    No! If you select the Premium plan during the promotional period, your account is automatically approved and activated instantly. There is no waiting period. If you choose the Free plan, the standard admin approval process still applies (usually within 24 hours).

    What happens to my account after the promotion ends?

    Your account remains active but your Premium features will be deactivated. All your data, profile information, and activity history are preserved. You can upgrade to paid Premium at any time from your dashboard to restore Premium features.

    Can existing free members get the promotional Premium access?

    Yes! If you already have a free account, you can upgrade to Premium from your dashboard during the promotional period. The upgrade will be applied instantly at no cost.

    Website Help

    How do I navigate the website?

    Use the navigation menu at the top of every page to access:

    • Directory: Browse suppliers, salons, and professionals (what you see depends on your account type)
    • Jobs: View and post job listings
    • Guides: Access compliance and safety guides
    • Insurance: Request insurance quotes
    • News: Read industry news (logged-in users only)

    Why can't I access certain pages?

    Some pages require you to be logged in with an active account. If your account is pending approval, you'll see a "waiting for approval" message. Once approved, you'll have full access.

    The website isn't working properly - what should I do?

    Try these steps:

    1. Refresh the page (Ctrl+R or Cmd+R)
    2. Clear your browser cache and cookies
    3. Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
    4. Check your internet connection

    How secure is my data?

    We take data security seriously:

    Payments & Pricing

    Is there a setup fee?

    No setup fees. Salons and professionals join for free. Suppliers can list for free, or upgrade to Premium (£35/month) for priority placement and enhanced features. No hidden charges.

    How do I pay for my supplier listing?

    Payments are processed securely through Stripe. After your application is approved, you can upgrade to Premium directly from your Supplier Dashboard. All payments are handled online via credit or debit card.

    Can I get a refund?

    First-time subscribers have a 14-day cooling off period for a full refund in accordance with UK Consumer Contracts Regulations. After this period, subscription payments are generally non-refundable, but we handle exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. Contact support@salonhub.co.uk for any billing queries.

    Do prices include VAT?

    All prices shown are inclusive of UK VAT where applicable.

    Data & Privacy

    What data do you collect?

    We collect only essential business information:

    • Business name and contact details
    • Email address
    • Business address and postcode
    • Equipment details (for salons)
    • Service descriptions (for suppliers)

    We do NOT collect unnecessary personal data or sell your data to third parties. Analytics cookies are only used with your explicit consent.

    Who can see my information?

    • Salons: Your basic business details are visible to suppliers in our network
    • Suppliers: Your company details are visible to all salon members in the directory

    We never share contact details with third parties for marketing purposes.

    How do I request my data?

    Contact us at support@salonhub.co.uk to request a copy of all data we hold about you. We'll provide it within 30 days as required by GDPR.

    Can I delete my data?

    Yes. Visit our Data Deletion Request page or contact us. We'll delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.

    What is the rewards system?

    The Salon Hub rewards system lets you earn points by engaging with the platform - completing guides, posting in Connect Q&A, writing reviews, and referring new members. You can redeem these points for exclusive rewards like Top Placement boosts, insurance discounts, and premium access!

    How do I earn points?

    You earn points through various activities:

    • Complete Guides: +15 points per guide (91 guides = 1,365 points!)
    • Earn Achievements: Bonus points for milestones (50-1000 points each)
    • Referral Achievements: 3 referrals = 100 pts, 10 = 250 pts, 25 = 500 pts, 50 = 1000 pts
    • Streak Achievements: 7 days = 50 pts, 30 days = 200 pts, 365 days = 1000 pts
    • Guide Milestones: 5 guides = 50 pts, 10 = 100 pts, 20 = 150 pts, 40 = 300 pts, 80 = 500 pts

    What are achievements?

    Achievements are special badges you unlock by reaching milestones like completing 10 guides, writing your first review, or logging in 7 days in a row. Each achievement comes with bonus points and shows off your dedication to the community!

    How do I view my points and achievements?

    Visit the Rewards & Achievements page (accessible from the navigation menu once logged in) to see your total points, available points, level, earned achievements, and rewards catalog.

    What rewards can I redeem?

    We offer various rewards including:

    • Verification Priority: Fast-track your verified badge (75 points)
    • Certificate of Excellence: Downloadable business certificate (100 points)
    • Insurance Discount: £30 off insurance quote with Oak Insurance (250 points)
    • Top Placement (1 Week): Gold crown badge & top 3 position (500 points)
    • Top Placement (1 Month): Top 3 position for 30 days (1200 points)

    Can I lose points?

    Points are only deducted when you redeem them for rewards. Your total points (lifetime earned) never decrease - they show your overall contribution to the community. Available points can go down when redeemed.

    What are levels?

    As you earn points, you level up every 150 points! Higher levels unlock special perks and show your expertise. You can reach Level 9+ just by completing all guides!

    Are there any hidden achievements?

    Yes! Some achievements are hidden until you unlock them. Keep exploring the platform to discover secret achievements like "Night Owl" (log in between 2-4am) and more!
